Janet Rourke is currently working at Hale Publishing, developing materials, editing books, planning conferences, and updating the website. She has many years experience promoting and supporting breastfeeding mothers. She worked at Mom's Place Breastfeeding Resource Center in Austin, helping new moms with breastfeeding problems, answering the breastfeeding hotline, and assisting with the practicum program. Prior to that, she worked at the Texas Department of Health serving as the Nutrition/Breastfeeding Training Coordinator, WIC Breastfeeding Promotion Coordinator, and Texas Breastfeeding Initiative Coordinator. During her tenure, many innovative breastfeeding promotion programs were started: Breastfeeding Mediawatch, Mother Friendly Worksite Program, Texas Ten Step Hospital Program, Annual Breastfeeding Summit, Peer Counselor Program, Intensive Course in Breastfeeding - Phase I and II, and the Mini Breastfeeding Basics Workshops. Under her supervision, many breastfeeding pamphlets, materials, and videos were developed.

Janet is President of Central Texas Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition and Amarillo Area Breastfeeding Coalition. She is a board member of the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Austin.   She is part of the legislative committee that introduces breastfeeding bills to the Texas Legislature each legislative session.
