Barbara Wilson-Clay has a busy private practice in Austin, Texas, where she has worked as a lactation consultant since 1987. She has been a La Leche League Leader since 1981. Her research and commentaries have appeared in the Journal of Human Lactation, Birth Issues, Breastfeeding Abstracts, and Current Issues in Clinical Lactation.

She serves on the editorial review board of JHL, and was a contributing editor to Current Issues in Clinical Lactation. Barbara helped found both the State and Central Texas chapters of Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies Coalition. She served a term on the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (the IBLCE) where she sat on the ethics and exam committees. She is a co-founder and board member of The Mothers Milk Bank at Austin. Barbara lobbies for breastfeeding related issues in the Texas Legislature, and lectures widely on topics related to clinical management of lactation.
